Zoo Animals and a Picnic in the Park

What a very fun day we had!  There is a small family owned zoo a little bit north of us, Hemker Park & Zoo.  We decided to take a trip up there to check it out today.  It was small, but had some fun attractions.

Feeding the Animals
In the Farm Yard area, there were a number of animals that were desperate for some treats!  We all got to feed goats, sheep, pigs, and a cow.  Jaelyn loved it, Xander tolerated it.  :)

The Budgie Birds
Scott's and my favorite area was the Budgie house.  These birds flock like crazy to you, especially if you have a feed stick in your hand.  Jaelyn was excited at first, but when she saw a dozen or more birds flapping their wings just inches from her face, she got a bit freaked out.

He was OK with it at first, but obviously by the end, Xander  was ALL DONE!
Face Boards
What's a visit to the zoo without a few face boards?

A Few More Animals
Many of the animals came right up to the fences to say hi.  These deer followed Jaelyn down the length of the  pen and around the corner.  :)

Look at those wings!

Family Photos
There were a few nice spots to snap some family photos while we were there.  Jaelyn enjoyed grabbing the camera and directing Mom and Dad in a mini photo shoot.

After the zoo, we had two sleepy kiddos.

But, after a cat nap in the car, they were raring to go again!  We had a nice picnic dinner at a local park and then had fun playing on the equipment and down by the river.

Even Daddy got in on the rock throwing fun!

They loved throwing rocks into the river and I loved spending the day with my family.
