South Dakota - Day 3

Once we got to Rapid City, our primary objective was to see Mt. Rushmore. We headed out there this morning. While there, we enjoyed the history of how the sculpture was created as well as the magnificence of its size.
Jaelyn had been talking about going to see the mountain with the faces for days. However, she wasn't exactly as excited as we were.

Next we headed into Custer State Park. There are three scenic and beautiful drives throughout the park that we enjoyed. First, we drove the Iron Mountain Road. There were a few great views of Mt. Rushmore, framed through tunnels we drove through. From there, we drove along the Wildlife Loop Road. I was really wanting to see tons of animals. I wanted the road to be so overrun with buffalo that we couldn't pass through. I even prayed for such an occurrence. Well, it wasn't buffalo, but we did get stopped by overly friendly burros. :) I loved it! Jaelyn enjoyed it as well, though after her armpit was accosted by a wayward burro tongue, Des wasn't so sure.

Also along the way, we did get to see a few buffalo and mule deer, but for me, the burros were the highlight. :)

Next, we headed to the Needles Highway. What a site! It was absolutely beautiful.

After seeing Custer State Park, we decided to head to Crazy Horse. We weren't quite as impressed as we were with Mt. Rushmore, but now we can say we've been there.

After a full day in the van, we decided to take in a Chuckwagon Supper. There was a fun cowboy show and yummy food.
It was a rip-roarin' good time had by all. We'll sleep well tonight!
