Our son has finally arrived! We are pleased to introduce you to Alexander Scott Paulson. He was born on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:02pm. He weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 inches long.
I worked all day Wednesday with no signs of labor. That afternoon, I went to the doctor. I did a non-stress test, just to make sure all was well with our little guy. As I was laying on the table, I started to feel the tiniest of contractions. When the doctor checked me at 4:00, she said I was dilated to a six. She gave me two choices. 1- I could meet her at the hospital and she would break my water to get the process started. 2- I could head home, wait until my water broke naturally and then head to the hospital. I decided we should just get the party started. I told her I'd be to the hospital between 6:00 and 6:30. I had to pick Jaelyn up from school, go back to my school to pick up my cell phone I had left there, and then head home to wait for Scott and his dad, who was going to watch Jaelyn for the night.
I called Scott from the receptionists' desk to tell him to cancel his evening appointments because we were heading to the hospital!
I picked Jaelyn up at school. When I told her we were going to meet her brother tonight or tomorrow, she giggled with excitement. She loved the idea of finally meeting her brother! Just that morning, she was asking me if her brother had hair. She said she just couldn't wait to find out!
We then went to school to get my phone. It was now 5:00 and the contractions were getting a bit closer and a bit stronger, but I could still walk and talk through them. Jaelyn and I arrived at the house around 5:20. Scott and his dad arrived a few minutes later. We talked for a while and shared Jaelyn's schedule and notes for her. By 6:00, I told Scott we'd better get to the hospital. Contractions were getting stronger and closer. We left and got to the hospital by 6:20. At that time I had my first strong contraction where I couldn't walk or talk.
We made it into admissions by 6:25. After admissions, they wheeled me into the delivery room. The nurse told me to change into the gown. By this point the contractions were quite strong. My water broke at 6:40 and the nurse wasn't even back to take my vitals yet!
When the nurse came back in, she got me into the bed, and within moments they realized this kiddo wasn't waiting for anything or anyone! I was a bit preoccupied with the contractions that were coming in continual waves, but I did hear the nurse tell me I couldn't push yet because she didn't even have her gloves on! :) I also remember them saying that they needed to get any doctor in because my doc wasn't going to make it in time.
Turns out she did...barely. She walked into the room, wearing her volleyball shorts, her Miller Lite T-shirt and her kneepads! She got a gown on and Alexander showed up a few moments later. He arrived at 7:02, just 22 minutes after my water broke. If I had waited for that to happen at home, we never would have made it to the hospital. I thank God that we were at the hospital and not on the road between here and there!
Enough of the story, onto the best part...pics of our new little bundle of joy. We are already so in love.
